Issues
Flood Control
Hurricane Harvey caused widespread flooding throughout the Houston area, especially in HD 129. Some of my constituents lost everything they owned. I will work on helping with flood mitigation before the next major storm hits HD 129. Also, I will continue working on a comprehensive drainage plan that looks at the entire watershed. State oversight can ensure proper coordination by all local organizations to make sure new drainage plans will protect homes from future floods.
Property and School Taxes
Every year, property taxes in HD 129 continue to increase. It is heartbreaking to hear the stories of residents being forced out of their homes because they can’t pay their property tax bills. I support revamping our property tax burden for school funds, helping fund our schools with sales tax proceeds and lowering our district’s property tax rate.
School Safety
School shootings are increasing at an alarming rate. I support a comprehensive plan to improve school safety, including installing more metal detectors, hiring more volunteer guards and police officers and training teachers and volunteers on how to use a handgun in the event of an active shooter. In addition, I believe that strengthening doors and walls will help protect teachers and students when emergencies occur.
Expansive Government Overreach
I will work to reign in the widespread abuse going on by special purpose taxing districts. This will help end the practice of taxation without representation and make the districts accountable to the taxpayers. It is time for taxpayers to have more insight about where their money is going.
Border Security
I will continue our state efforts to secure our border and stop more illegal aliens from crossing Texas’ southern border. Hiring more border DPS officers and eliminating sanctuary cities will not only reduce crime, but also help enforce state and federal immigration laws.
Pro Life
I will continue supporting pro-life legislation because every life is a precious gift from God. The rights of the unborn must be protected and alternatives to abortion, including adoption, must be made more accessible to women looking for assistance.
Pro Family
It is more important than ever to protect family rights. Children should be able to grow up in a loving environment where they can be happy. By supporting legislation that acknowledges the significance of family rights, I am keeping children safe and ensuring that they will have bright futures.
Space Business
NASA is the largest employer in HD 129 and space technology continues to grow. I am working on policies that will expand job growth in space business and continue making HD 129 an attractive place for employers, including workforce requirements and reducing government regulations.
Pension Reform
Pensions were eating away Houston’s budget and causing taxes to increase throughout HD 129. The pension reform plan signed by Gov. Abbott in 2017 was a step in the right direction. I support taking care of pension obligations to improve Houston’s financial health and satisfy the needs of public employees. I will work on strengthening pension reform for all public pensions to ensure that they are funded and financially sound.
Government Waste
I will work on reigning in wasteful government spending and increasing transparency. Too many government agencies and bureaucrats waste taxpayer money on useless programs, committees and trips. Taxpayers should know where their money is going and there should be consequences for not using taxpayer money responsibly.
Second and 10th Amendment Rights
The right to bear arms and state rights are two of the most important amendments to the Constitution. We should be able to protect ourselves from violent criminals and the federal government should not intrude upon how states run their affairs. It’s important to protect the 2nd and 10th Amendments and stop liberals from taking these rights away from Texans. I will work to protect and preserve these crucial rights.
Property Rights
Your property is your home, not the government’s. Eminent domain continues to be abused by government entities to force longtime residents out of their homes. I believe that protecting property rights is vital for encouraging homeownership and stopping the continuing expansion of government intrusion.
Veterans
Our veterans fought against dangerous enemies who threatened the freedoms we cherish in the United States. They deserve the utmost respect and gratitude for their service. I will make sure that veterans receive the tax benefits they deserve, especially after the sacrifices they made fighting for our country.
